Are PUPPY CUDDLES and this we have in abundance!!! we are enjoying our daily dose of puppy cuddles very much.
As the puppies become stronger we have been able to observe them lifting themselves off the bedding a little bit. It is so encouraging to see the mobility skills improving daily!
Photos of the morning – the much desired squishy puppy tummies that DO require alot of kisses (full time job making sure the correct allocation of kisses are administered to each and every puppy).
Katherine with a wonderful “clutch” of puppies! We do enjoy a puppy pile in this house!
It is hard to think that this time last week we were adjusting to our newborns! Maggie has been a wonderful Mum to her babies!
They have all reached their target weights and are looking fabulous for it. They have spent the week mainly sleeping and drinking, or being cuddled! They are active puppies gaining strength in their legs to help assist them when they start to walk. I cant wait to see them take their first steps. They are a very well developed litter as we have already had a few pups making little woofs which ordinarily wouldn’t start as young as this!
In a few days time we will see their eyes opening – it will be at this point I will stop taking photos for a little while. I love that first time when they look back at you – with such dreamy eyes!
I have updated the gallery with photos, but for now here is a photo that really stands out….
Mr Blue might have had a sneaky drink at the milk bar!
The puppies are almost a week old and already I have three of them reaching their target weights. The others are also gaining weight steadily, so I am very pleased with all of them.
In a few days time I will have to be trimming their claws so they don’t hurt Maggie when they are feeding.
I am weighing the puppies every day to ensure they are putting on weight, so that I can be on the ball should they not be thriving. They are all doing really well. Putting on roughly 2oz per day, with one of the pups putting on roughly 3oz a day! This pup I have named Humphrey the Heffalump! He is going to be a big boy judging by the size of his paws.
It is hoped that newborn puppies will double their weight in a week. Humphrey I think is going to meet his target tomorrow! (Bless him!).
Maggie is looking so at ease with her puppies it is a real joy to see her embrace being a Mother.
Once we have reached the target of doubling their birth weight, our next milestone is to see the eyes to open. I cannot wait to see their little eyes peeping back at me.
As everyone knows how important it is to me – the welfare of animals, I regularly do my bit in supporting local dogs homes or in the past have taken in stray dogs (which resulted in me spending a lot of time, effort and money in their recouperation). I have taken in all kinds of animals from ducklings, baby rabbits to lambs. I love to care for them and do all I can to ensure they thrive. I gladly take in animals to ensure they have a safe future.
My newborn puppies will all have the privilege of good homes with lovely new owners and the support from me in ensuring that good advice is given regarding their welfare. Monday potentially if left as she is, a stray in Greece will not have that benefit and will have numerous litters of puppies. She wont get the care she needs and nor will her puppies. This breaks my heart to consider this fact.
Monday’s plight has touched me for different reasons, it is because my friend has taken on the same ethos that I do in helping care for Monday. There is a big difference though – Monday is in Greece and it will involve a lot of money to get her back to the UK to start having a safe and secure future.
I appreciate we cannot help all animals, all the time. I like to think I always do what I can. I feel very proud of my friend for taking on the huge responsibility.
If anyone can offer a donation of ANY amount to help secure Monday’s future we would all be very grateful indeed. A donation of just £1 is all we are asking from anyone who is reading this post. (though of course if you are able to do anything more than the £1 then that is fab!).
please – if you can – paypal maccadesa@yahoo.com
There is a facebook group set up called “A Dog Called Monday” you will see how much hardwork Lisa is putting into training Monday and giving her all the appropriate care she needs.
The puppies are little wrigglers and are getting about by paddling all over the whelping box. Maggie is settling into being a Mummy really well. I am so proud of her.
She is very relaxed with them in the whelping box, feeds them, then when they are asleep she will whine and then poke them to check they are ok! Bless her.
Grandma Molly is very keen to meet her Grandchildren, Maggie is not quite ready for visitors though!
Here is a picture of Maggie with her beautiful pups. A picture of contentment!
Our beautiful puppies, a day old! I have weighed them and they have all put on weight with one of them now being over a pound in weight!
They are fairly strong – paddling around the whelping box and are fairly vocal with it!
Maggie initially didn’t want any of the adult dogs anywhere near the whelping box, but she is starting to relax more and the dogs know they can venture a little nearer.
I have created an album for the puppies, if you click on Maggies Puppies 2015 you will see the new photos. Im still in the process of loading on todays photos – it is taking forever!!!!
We have six beautiful puppies and Maggie is doing a fabulous job. It is amazing how mother nature works and the natural instincts kick in.
Maggie started first stage labour yesterday afternoon, was very quiet but panting periodically. The nesting instincts were increasing as she fussed over a variety of beds.
This morning she was sick a few times as the contractions had started to get stronger. When she had contractions she hid her head into the edge of Charlies bed – poor girl. I am so very proud of her, I had worried about how she would cope with labour – but cope she did and she is doing fabulously.
Maggie decided that the best place to have her puppies was in Charlie’s bed! We were able to move Maggie and her puppies after she had four pups.
