The puppies are keeping me busy!

I have been having a few struggles with the computer and downloading any videos.  As you will note in the gallery the photos are not working for several pages!  I am becoming rather tired slogging away at the computer late at night with the videos not loading!  (so with the early mornings in mind the pup diary unfortunately has suffered a little – I have to reduce my workload somewhere).

I am in the process of completing all the paperwork for the pups.  Kennel Club Insurance has been activated.  Yesterday the puppies were microchipped, the chip will be registered on collection day.

As this is Maggies first litter I have to conclude what a brilliant mother she has been to her puppies.  She has taken to it so well, her puppies are a true credit to her.

Maggie has worked so hard at feeding her puppies I will need to be observing her recovery, we have been feeding her four meals a day plus plenty of extras such as scrambled eggs and cheese.

This litter have been superb, they settle easily at night time or any time they are put into the whelping box.  They are a very quiet litter of puppies.  They have kept the pen clear from poos since roughly the age of four weeks and the wees are reducing to approximately three individual wees overnight.

On Saturday the puppies had a photo shoot – to potentially be in a calendar for next year!  I am waiting to see the results of the photo shoot – so watch this space.

7 Weeks old

We have had a very busy few days, lots of visitors!

The puppies are becoming very bold and playful – it is a joy to watch them!

DSC_0138

I have now taken all the puppies for a little trip around the block, and have started on round two visits.

The puppies are now finding themselves in little kerfuffles with siblings as they need to understand to listen to reactions from the puppies.  It is important for them to work out when to back off.

Maggie is still feeding the puppies which is quite something at 7 weeks.  Molly would have stopped at six weeks!  Maggie is now beginning to point the puppies in the right direction for their behaviour so she can enjoy some time with her puppies without them running completely wild with her!

Today has been worming day, so hopefully all the little tummies will be ok.

I do have alot of photos to upload – so keep an eye on the gallery over the next couple of days.

Puppies are getting faster!

As the days are flying by the puppies are definitely gathering pace!

I have taken three of the puppies around the block so they can experience the big wide world in the safety of the arms of someone they know very well.  I will be taking them all out for a little trip around the block at least twice so they will have an understanding of what a bigger space feels like.

As a breeder, you need to try and see things from your puppies eyes – to see how they may feel about things as they are so small – things can feel dauntingly enormous until they can feel sure that something that is imposing and oppressive to them is actually nothing to worry about and safe.

This litter continue to be the quietest litter we have had!  Normally with previous litters we have a chorus of cries first thing in the morning or when they are waiting for their dinner, but these pups are rather patient and cry only a little bit in the morning. They are definitely holding on to their wee’s and poo’s until they get into the garden (with the exception of some wee’s being missed as we cant always get them out quick enough!).  They are an intelligent bunch of puppies!!

I am having problems with the computer taking forever to load photos and videos – which has resulted in me staying up till way past midnight attempting to do a diary update.  As I am already worn out – Unfortunately as a resut I will be reducing the amount of updates as I cannot physically keep being up so late and up so early with a busy day ahead!

I have loaded photos on to the gallery

Here are a few of my favourite photos.

We are having a lovely time with the puppies.  They are always playful after they have had their feed, they will play for about 20 minutes or so and then fall asleep!

The routine is immediately after every sleep to put them in the garden for the chance to wee.  They have got the hang of their toilet training so well that we are at the point where they are asking to go out FROM the PUPPY BOX!! We have not had such amazing puppies as these – they are so smart.  We haven’t had to clean up poo in the pen for nearly a week now!

It is important the new owners continue giving them frequent opportunities to go for a wee, as they cannot hold on to it for too long, though it does seem already we might be having some puppies going through the night without weeing in the box(as the wee’s are decreasing in the puppy box!) as they are actually waiting to go outside for a wee when we come down at 6.30am I am SO pleased with their progress.

Now for the fun stuff – here are a few videos for you to enjoy

The gallery will be updated!

Puppy play in the evening!

We are now at the stage with the toilet training and the puppy’s development to have playtime “freetime” in the lounge.  It is madness but wonderful to see them playing together on the carpet.

The toilet training is going well with a big majority of wee’s being done in the garden (on the grass!!!) and we haven’t had any poos in the house for the past two days.  Regular visits to the garden are required as they will still need opportunity!

As the level of activity has increased I have also had to change all the collars.  I was able to replace 4 out of the 6 yesterday and after a shopping spree today I could then change the remaining collars. The puppies are still the same colours!  (though I saw a very cute collar for Miss Pink that was purple – very tempting as so sweet!!!!).

Maggie has also bee able to spend time playing with the puppies without them constantly feeding from her.  It takes time for Maggie to learn how to stop the pups from feeding at every single opportunity, she wants to be able to spend time with them and play – so soon this will be more relaxed for her.

Here are a couple of videos from today.

Another wet weather day

The puppies have done amazingly well with their toilet training – given the weather has been horrendous.

I have had to modify my walking style around the puppies – now referred to as the Step and slide!

Puppy antics versus a mothers love

Have had a super day with the puppies.  It started with a clean pen.  Followed by antics in the garden!

As this is my second post of the day – I thought I would post a couple of short video clips demonstrating things from my point of view.

I had alot of fun playing with the puppies and laying on the floor attempting to take photos – I failed.  I was under siege by my beautiful pups!!!  I sincerely wish I could have taken a selfie with my camera (I only had my SLR to hand).  As a picture of me would have illustrated what a good breeder looks like. Dishevelled, tired and a hair style that looked like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards.  I think this video may demonstrate part of my day.

Life as a breeder

This next video shows one of the many reasons why I enjoy breeding my Labradors.

Maggie loves her pups

Beautiful Sunny day for my puppies

The puppies are very much enjoying having the garden to play in.  They are into everything and charging around.  I have had to resort to developing a new style of walk to ensure that I do not risk stepping on a puppy.

They are smashing.  I have uploaded photos of the little heartbreakers into the gallery and here are todays videos! …
