All quiet at Marchstone

The puppies have all gone to their new homes so here at Marchstone things are very quiet indeed.

Thank you to everyone who has been following their development with interest.  Please dip into the website to see if we have any updates on their development or news on any future puppies.

The Fabulous Four!

and then there were two…

Dexter and Ben have now gone to their new homes, thank you for the photos sent to my mobile already!  THANK YOU SO MUCH.  (I will try and put them on the pc if I can!).  It is much quieter already, I have put a massive teddy bear in the pen to keep Peaches and Rufus cosy.

Here is a little video of the remaining terrible two….(get the wabbit!)  photos are on the pups gallery and I will create a gallery for the pups in new homes photos!

Last day as a complete family ….

I have a little video clip of our puppies playing this morning and have also taken some photos of the pups in the blossoms….

Rufus in the blossoms!

It will be sad to see the puppies go to their new homes, but obviously I cannot keep them all (boo to whoever said I cant!!!).  They are tremendous puppies, they are going to make wonderful pets for their owners and I hope everyone will keep me posted on how they get on.  (photos please…hint hint!)

The importance of socialisation

If you want your puppy to be confident and happy then it is really improtant to get them out and about as soon as possible.  To expose them to as many new experiences as soon as possible.  Obviously whilst they are going through their vaccination programme you have to be careful with the level of exposure – so to ensure their safety whilst the vaccination is boosting up their natural immune system, then you can take them out and about – by carrying them everywhere.

I have this evening taken the puppies, with Katherine, two at a time out round the block for five minutes.  They loved taking in the new sights and smells.  I will do this everyday until they are in their new homes.

The importance in starting this as soon as possible is that your pup will be confident when out and about.  You need to be sure your puppy is not going to run off in fright when you are on a walk.

Please read this article by a fellow breeder friend Diana Stevens.  I agree with the advice she gives as it is way too long to wait two weeks after the second vaccine before you start socialisation, as you are losing VALUABLE social skills and time in which your puppy will trust you and want to stay with you.  Obviously you have to go with the advice you are comfortable with and BE sensible but please dont keep your puppy on the lead until it is 12 weeks old…get them off the lead as soon as possible.  My reccomendation is a week after the first vaccination.  Take them to clean areas.  Some people are happier doing this from the second vaccination at the age of ten weeks.  It is up to each individual as the maternal antibodies would have been active in the puppy up until the age of 8 weeks so they will not have had a chance to dip at all.  Clearly if you know there is a problem with parvo in your area then do not take risks.

Today has been a sad day as we had to attend a family funeral, Dave’s Dad we had our lovely neighbours look after the puppies for us, they did a fabulous job.  When we returned home Katherine and I enjoyed some puppy time…… here is a clip entitled “jump” and also a clip of our little hooligans playing in the garden with Katherine!

8 weeks old today

The wonderful puppies are keeping me on my toes, I can barely keep up with them they are so full of mischief!

They have had their vaccination today and also the microchip.  They all behaved beautifully!  No squeeks at all!

They have been playing the garden, but one of them (havent quite sussed out the culprit) is managing to move the heavy ceramic water bowl till it empties.  For now I have gone up a size in heavy bowl and wedged it in so it cannot be moved!

noting the type of water bowl - this has been moved quite some distance!

Here is a little video clip of them playing in the garden today.

Not long till my pups leave the nest…..

The puppies are fast approaching 8 weeks of age, on tuesday they will be having their vaccinations.

The puppies have grown up so fast.  Their playing skills fully developed and being put into practise with the cats and the rabbit.  The pups are full of mischief and my ability to walk with ease in the garden has been put under more and more pressure as the days go by.  they like to rush up to me so I have adapted my walking style to encorporate alot of side stepping and wide zig zags for fear of catching them!

Here are a few videos:

Lovely time in the garden

We spent the afternoon playing with the puppies and generally soaking up the sunshine.  As always Melvin is playing big bro and he HAS the stick, it is HIS stick, they might think they want it but it is HIS (and that is final!).

Rufus....pleeeeeaaaaase can I have the stick Bro?

ha! the stick is MINE!

The pups have been laying with us as we sunbathed and rolled about as they slid off our cushions!  Lots of cuddles – got to make the most of it before they go.  I cant believe they are going to start going in a weeks time.  The time has flown by and they have all grown in to gorgeous cute little pups!

I have taken lots of photos – now in the gallery

7 weeks old today

The puppies are now very active! Today they stepped up a gear and were climbing over the barrier we had put up to keep them in the garden.  Using it like a ladder! LOL little monkeys!  They really enjoy the freedom of the garden and charge about like little hooligans!  It is very enjoyable watching them!

Here is a video clip I took yesterday: playing in the garden with Melvin

I have updated the photo gallery!

Lots of fun in the garden!
